Short description

Deadpool & Wolverine follows Wade Wilson, who has left his life as the mercenary Deadpool behind and now struggles through an ordinary existence. When his homeworld is threatened with destruction, he is drawn back into action and forced to suit up again. His mission requires the help of a Wolverine variant, a version of Logan worn down by failure and deeply unwilling to join him. The pair find themselves in a hostile realm ruled by Cassandra Nova, and Wade's goal becomes saving his world and the people he cares about.

Shawn Levy directed the film, the fourteenth of seventeen he has directed in chronological order, following The Adam Project and preceding Avengers: Doomsday. The screenplay was written by Rhett Reese, Levy and Ryan Reynolds, with Kevin Feige, Simon Kinberg and Levy producing. Reynolds plays Wade Wilson, Hugh Jackman returns as Logan, and the cast also includes Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Paradox, Dafne Keen as Laura and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, among sixty-one credited cast members and 559 credited crew.

Made for a budget of 200 million USD, the film took 1.34 billion USD worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.6 out of 10 from more than nine thousand votes.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Actor Vinnie Jones, who played Juggernaut in 'X-Men: The Last Stand', could have returned to the villain's role in this film. According to him, director Shawn Levy reached out to him. However, Shawn and Vinnie were unable to reach an agreement because wearing the Juggernaut costume during filming was both psychologically and physically taxing for him.
  • According to actor Rob Delaney, his colleague Hugh Jackman had to train every day to stay in shape during filming. On one particular day, Hugh did 800 push-ups.
  • Peggy, the dog who played Dogpool, caught the attention of actor and producer Ryan Reynolds when she won the 'Britain's Ugliest Dog' contest (ParrotPrint) in 2023. Ryan stated that Peggy is the canine embodiment of Wade Wilson, and he fell in love with her at first sight.
  • Peggy, the dog who played Dogpool, walked the red carpet alongside Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and other actors at the film's premiere.
  • Before Hugh Jackman expressed his desire to participate, the screenwriters were unable to come up with a worthy plot for the new Deadpool story.
  • Many of the jokes for the movie were created by producer and head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige.
  • According to Ryan Reynolds, Ghost Rider, played by actor Nicolas Cage, could have appeared in the film. However, they were unable to reach an agreement for Ghost Rider's cameo.
  • According to Ryan Reynolds, there was a desire to include the Fantastic Four from the movie 'Fantastic Four' (2015). The team's appearance was prevented by budget constraints and potential licensing issues regarding a large number of characters for an R-rated film.
  • The film's first teaser trailer was viewed 365 million times across all platforms within the first 24 hours, setting a new world record.
  • Rob McElhenney, a friend of Ryan Reynolds and co-owner of Wrexham AFC, appeared in the film. According to Ryan, he was supposed to play a rank-and-file TVA agent who attacks the main character. Because the scene didn't fit the film's concept, it had to be cut. This was a real blow for Reynolds, as Rob had flown to London specifically for the shoot.
  • Producer Kevin Feige was initially against casting Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, as he believed that Jackman's return to the role would somehow diminish the significance of the events in the movie 'Logan'.
  • Hugh Jackman said he was finished with the role of Wolverine after working on 'Logan'. Then he watched 'Deadpool' and told Ryan Reynolds that he would like to see these two characters meet.
  • According to Ryan Reynolds, the filmmakers intentionally asked for less money than Disney was prepared to allocate for the project. They recalled that the 2016 'Deadpool' became so successful precisely because of time and financial constraints—the creators were forced to be resourceful and find interesting solutions.
  • Madonna rarely grants permission to use her songs in films, so Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy traveled to meet the singer to secure the rights to use the music video for "Like a Prayer" (1989). It turned out that Madonna's son is a huge fan of Deadpool. Madonna suggested some changes to the scene where the clip was to be used, and they proved so successful that the scene was reshot almost immediately.
