The Hunting Party follows Simon Hunt, a war correspondent whose career derails after an on-air breakdown during a broadcast in Bosnia. Five years later, with the conflict over, his former cameraman Duck has been promoted and returns to Sarajevo with a young, inexperienced journalist named Benjamin to cover the anniversary of the war's end. Simon reappears and convinces Duck that he knows the whereabouts of a Bosnian war criminal known as The Fox, a man the international authorities have failed to capture. Armed with little more than a tip, the three set out to find him. Their plan goes wrong when a United Nations representative mistakes the group for a CIA hit squad, and the hunters become the hunted.
Richard Shepard directed and wrote the film, which sits between The Matador and Dom Hemingway in his filmography. It stars Richard Gere as Simon, Terrence Howard as Duck, Jesse Eisenberg as Benjamin, and Diane Kruger as Marjana, among a credited cast of 38.
Produced by Intermedia on a budget of 15 million dollars, the film took in around 8 million worldwide, a poor return. On IMDb it holds a 6.5 rating from 366 votes, while its critics' rating stands at 6 out of 10 from 93 reviews, placing the two measures close together.
