Hypnotic

Danny Rourke is a detective haunted by the disappearance of his daughter. While looking into a series of baffling bank robberies carried out under seemingly impossible circumstances, he becomes convinced that the man behind them holds the key to finding her. His investigation draws him toward a secret government program and forces him to question what is real. Working alongside Diana Cruz, a gifted medium with her own connection to the case, Rourke finds himself both hunter and hunted as the line between reality and illusion breaks down.

Robert Rodriguez directed and co-wrote the film with Max Borenstein, and produced it with Lisa Ellzey and Jeff Robinov. It is the twenty-third of the twenty-four features Rodriguez has directed in chronological order, arriving between Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles and Spy Kids: Armageddon. Ben Affleck leads as Rourke, with Alice Braga as Diana Cruz, William Fichtner, J. D. Pardo, and Hala Finley and Ionie Olivia Nieves as Minnie at different ages. The production carried a budget of 70 million dollars and returned 16 million worldwide.

Audience response has been modest: on IMDb the film holds 5.5 out of 10 from roughly 46,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 from a much smaller pool of about 1,600. A critics' rating of 4.7 from 115 reviews places it below even the IMDb audience figure, making Hypnotic one of the less warmly received entries in its director's filmography.
