The Vault of Horror

Five men find themselves trapped together in an underground vault, where each recounts a recurring nightmare. One man visits his sister, who has inherited their father's fortune, with murder on his mind and a macabre restaurant meal afterwards. A newly married couple settle into a new home, but the husband's obsession with order drives his wife to the edge. A magician in India covets a rope used in an impossible trick and is willing to pay any price for it. An insurance swindle built on a faked death goes wrong when two medical students take an interest in the body. And a painter cheated out of his earnings turns to voodoo to take revenge on those who wronged him.

The film was directed by Roy Ward Baker, whose earlier work includes A Night to Remember and, in the horror field, The Vampire Lovers, Scars of Dracula, Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde and Asylum, released the year before. It was written by Milton Subotsky, who produced with Max Rosenberg for Amicus Productions. The cast includes Anna Massey, Terry-Thomas, Glynis Johns, Curd Jürgens and Dawn Addams among thirty-three credited performers.
