Happily N'Ever After

In Fairy Tale Land, a wizard who keeps the balance between good and evil leaves on a holiday, placing two bumbling assistants in charge. Without his oversight, Cinderella's wicked stepmother Frieda gathers an alliance of villains and seizes power, intent on erasing the happy endings that fairy tales depend on. When Ella sees that her stepmother means to ruin her storybook life, she turns against her and becomes the leader of a resistance movement, aided by her friend Rick, a palace servant, and a less-than-perfect Prince Charming. The film is a 3D animated comedy that draws on the Brothers Grimm tales and reworks them with modern humour.

Paul Bolger directed from a screenplay by Robert Moreland, with John H. Williams, Charlie Woebcken and Chad Hammes producing. The voice cast is led by Sarah Michelle Gellar as Ella, alongside George Carlin, Andy Dick, Lisa Kaplan, Michael McShane and Rob Paulsen, among a credited cast of 35. It runs 87 minutes and was released in January 2007.

Made for about 47 million USD, the film took roughly 38 million USD worldwide, less than its budget. Audiences rate it modestly, at 4.5/10 on IMDb from around 12,000 votes and 5.1/10 on TMDB from about 453. A critics' rating of 3.4/10 from 80 reviews places it below even those audience scores.
