Synchronic

Synchronic follows two paramedics in New Orleans, Steve and Dennis, whose working lives are upended by a string of gruesome deaths connected to a synthetic drug called Synchronic. The drug produces effects that appear to defy ordinary reality, and as the two men try to understand what they are dealing with, Dennis's teenage daughter fails to come home from a party. The search for her drives the story forward while the drug's strange properties become increasingly central.

The film is a science fiction thriller with horror and drama elements, directed by Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson, who also share producing credits; Benson wrote the screenplay. It is the fifth feature in the directing pair's chronological filmography, arriving between The Endless and Something in the Dirt. Anthony Mackie plays Steve and Jamie Dornan plays Dennis, with Katie Aselton, Alexia Ioannides, Ramiz Monsef and Bill Oberst Jr. among the supporting cast across 24 credited performers and a crew of 160.

Released in October 2020, the film runs 102 minutes and was produced through Patriot Pictures, XYZ Films, Pfaff & Pfaff Productions and Love & Death Productions. It took about 1 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 6.2/10 from 46,000 votes and on TMDB 6.3/10 from 1,148 votes, while critics gave it 6.8/10 across 160 reviews, placing critical approval somewhat above the audience scores.
