Wish Dragon follows Din, a college student from a working-class background in Shanghai who has neither the time nor the money to pursue his ambitions. When he frees Long, a wish-granting dragon who has spent centuries trapped in a teapot, the two set off through the modern city to find Li Na, a childhood friend Din has not seen in years. Long is powerful but jaded, and the search raises questions about what actually matters when anything can be wished for.
The film is the first feature directed by Chris Appelhans, who went on to direct KPop Demon Hunters in 2025. It was written by David Kendall, Amy Bloom and Jacquelyn Mitchard, and produced by Aron Warner, Jackie Chan and Chris Bremble. Jimmy Wong voices Din, John Cho voices Long, Constance Wu voices Din's mother and Natasha Liu Bordizzo voices Lina, with Jimmy O. Yang and Aaron Yoo also in the credited cast of 37.
Produced by Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Animation, Tencent Pictures and Base FX as a co-production between China, the United States and the Czech Republic, the 99-minute animated adventure earned roughly 26 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.2 out of 10 from about 39,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.9 from around 1,500 votes. A critics' rating of 6.2 from 24 reviews places professional assessments below those audiences.
