Amityville: The Evil Escapes

A group of priests performs an exorcism at the infamous Amityville house, and the rite appears to succeed. The evil presence, however, survives by transferring itself into an ordinary-looking floor lamp. The lamp is later sold off with the house's contents and ends up in the hands of the Evans family, who have just moved into the matriarch's gothic seaside mansion. Once the lamp is inside their new home, the family is troubled by a series of disturbing incidents, and one of them turns to Father Kibbler for help in understanding what is happening.

The film was directed by Sandor Stern, who also wrote the screenplay, and it was produced by Barry Bernardi for Spectacor Films and Steve White Productions. It was Stern's fourth feature as director, following Passions, Assassin and Pin, and it marked a move into established horror franchise territory. Patty Duke heads the cast as Nancy Evans, with Jane Wyatt as Alice Leacock, Fredric Lehne as Father Kibbler, Lou Hancock as Peggy, and Brandy Gold and Zoe Trilling as the Evans daughters.

Made on a budget of three million dollars, the film was released in May 1989 as a television movie, running 95 minutes. Its reception has been modest: on IMDb it holds a 4.4 rating from around 4,100 votes, and on TMDB a 4.6 from roughly 145 votes. Audience approval is therefore low and consistent across both, indicating a film regarded as a minor entry in the series.
