Bee Movie

Bee Movie follows Barry B. Benson, a young bee who has just finished his education and is dismayed to learn that his only career option is making honey. He leaves the hive for the first time and breaks a fundamental rule of bee society by speaking to a human, a New York florist named Vanessa. When he discovers that people have been consuming the honey bees produce, he decides to take the human race to court.

The animated film was directed by Steve Hickner and Simon J. Smith. It sits second in Hickner's directing credits, between The Prince of Egypt and Book of Dragons, and second for Smith, after Shrek 3-D and before Megamind: The Button of Doom. Jerry Seinfeld voices Barry and wrote the screenplay with Spike Feresten and Barry Marder, and produced alongside Christina Steinberg. Renée Zellweger voices Vanessa, with Matthew Broderick, Patrick Warburton, John Goodman and Chris Rock among the voice cast.

Released in 2007, the film runs 91 minutes. It cost about 150 million dollars and earned roughly 288 million worldwide, a modest return against its budget. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from around 196,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.1 from over 5,000. A critics' rating of 5.8 from 171 reviews places it close to those audience scores.
