The Willoughbys

The Willoughby children are convinced they would be better off without their self-absorbed parents, so they devise a scheme to send the two of them away on a holiday. Once on their own, the siblings set out on an adventure to work out what family actually means, while trying to fit their old-fashioned outlook to the world around them. The animated film is based on Lois Lowry's book.

Kris Pearn directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Stanleigh, and it was produced by Luke Carroll with Aaron L. and Brenda Gilbert. It is Pearn's second feature as director, following Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 in 2013. The voice cast includes Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, Alessia Cara, Terry Crews, Martin Short and Jane Krakowski, with 26 credited cast members and 189 credited crew.

Released in April 2020 and running 92 minutes, the Canadian production mixes adventure, comedy and fantasy. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 23,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7 out of 10 from roughly 1,000 votes. A critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 from 64 reviews places it slightly above the IMDb audience figure and close to the TMDB score.
