Michel Gerfaut is a professional gambler who, driving home late one night, comes across a badly injured man in a car. He takes him to a hospital and leaves without giving a statement, only to learn that the crash was staged and the man had been shot. Having seen too much, Michel becomes a loose end for the people responsible, and they begin hunting him and everyone connected to him.
The film is a French crime thriller directed by Jacques Deray, whose earlier work includes Symphony for a Massacre, The Swimming Pool, Borsalino, Flic Story and The Gang. It was written by Alain Delon, Christopher Frank and Deray, produced by Delon, and it followed those five films in the director's career before The Outsider and Credo. Delon stars as Michel Gerfaut, heading a credited cast of twenty that includes Dalila Di Lazzaro, Michel Auclair, Pascale Roberts, Lyne Chardonnet and Jean-Pierre Darras.
Released in October 1980, the film runs 93 minutes and sits within the action, crime and thriller genres. It was produced in France by UGC, France 2 and Adel Productions. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.3 from around 2,400 votes, while on TMDB its rating stands at 6.1 from a much smaller base of 85 votes; the two scores are close, though the far larger sample on IMDb gives that figure more weight.
