Mad Heidi

In a dystopian Switzerland under fascist rule, Heidi lives a simple life in the Alps with her grandfather Alpöhi, who tries to shield her from the world around them. When her longing for freedom brings her into conflict with the dictator's henchmen, she is set on a path that turns the innocent mountain girl into a fighter leading a rebellion against the regime and its cheese-fuelled machinery.

Mad Heidi was released in 2022 and runs 92 minutes. It is a Swiss production from Swissploitation Films and A Film Company, made for about 3 million USD, and mixes action, adventure, comedy, fantasy and horror. It was directed by Johannes Hartmann and Sandro Klopfstein, who wrote the screenplay with Gregory D. Widmer; Valentin Greutert produced. Alice Lucy plays Heidi, with David Schofield as Alpöhi, Kel Matsena as Goat Peter, Max Rüdlinger as Kommandant Knorr, Casper Van Dien as President Meili and Almar G. Sato as Klara.

The film drew modest audience scores, 5.5/10 on IMDb from around 5,200 votes and 5.7/10 on TMDB from roughly 265 votes, while a critics' rating of 6.9/10 from 29 reviews places professional response noticeably higher than viewer response. Its budget and vote counts indicate a low-budget genre picture with a limited but engaged audience.
