- Work on the adaptation of the novel of the same name (1993) by Tom Clancy began as early as the 1990s. In 1994, Keanu Reeves was offered the role of John Clark for $7 million, but the actor declined. In 1995, Savoy Pictures shut down the project during pre-production, with Laurence Fishburne and Gary Sinise slated to participate. In 2012, Christopher McQuarrie became the film's director, and Paramount Pictures took over the project. Negotiations were held with Tom Hardy, who was to play John Clark, and with Kevin Costner, who was planned to be cast as William Harper. In September 2018, it was announced that Michael B. Jordan would play Clark, and that it would be a two-part film series based on the novels "Without Remorse" (1993) and "Rainbow Six" (1998). In December of the same year, it became known that Stefano Sollima would direct, and filming began in Berlin in October 2019.
