Zog is a young dragon attending Dragon School, where he must master flying, roaring, and fire-breathing to earn a golden star from his teacher. Clumsy and accident-prone, he keeps getting hurt, and a kind girl named Princess Pearl tends to his injuries each time. Their friendship grows as Zog faces the school's expectations, including the traditional task of capturing a princess, even though Pearl has her own ambitions beyond royal life.
This 27-minute animated television film from the United Kingdom was directed by Max Lang and Daniel Snaddon, who share a background in adapting children's picture books for the screen. It sits between Lang's Albert and The Snail and the Whale in his directing work, and was made by Magic Light Pictures, the company behind several similar adaptations. The screenplay is by Max Lang and Suzanne Lang. The voice cast includes Lenny Henry as the narrator, Hugh Skinner as Zog, Tracey Ullman as Madame Dragon, Kit Harington as Sir Gadabout, Patsy Ferran as Princess Pearl, and Rob Brydon in assorted roles.
Audiences have responded favourably to the film: on IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from roughly 1,700 votes, while on TMDB the rating is 6.7 from a much smaller pool of 41 votes. The larger vote count on IMDb suggests a solid and widely seen family title, while the modest TMDB sample reflects its more limited presence there.
