The Closet

The Closet is a Korean horror thriller about Sang-won, an architect and recent widower who moves with his young daughter Ina to a new house at the edge of the city. Grief and the demands of single parenthood leave him distant, and Ina grows withdrawn, complaining of odd noises coming from the closet in her room. After an argument about sending her to an art camp, she vanishes without a trace. With the police unable to find any lead, a mysterious figure named Kyung-hoon approaches the desperate father and insists he knows where the girl is, claiming she was taken by the closet itself. He offers to bring her back, but time is short.

The film is the directorial debut of Kim Kwang-bin, who also wrote the screenplay, with Ha Jung-woo producing and starring as Sang-won. Kim Nam-gil plays Kyung-hoon, and the cast includes Heo Yool as Ina, alongside Kim Si-a, Shin Hyun-been and Kim Soo-jin. It runs 98 minutes and was released in February 2020.

On IMDb the film holds a 5.7 rating from roughly 3,100 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.1 from about 209 votes, a wide gap that reflects a warmer response from that audience than from IMDb users. A critics' rating of 6.2 from nine reviews places critical opinion between the two audience scores.
