Life of Brian

Life of Brian follows a young Jewish man named Brian Cohen who, largely by accident, is mistaken for the Messiah. Born in the same period as Jesus, in a stable nearby, he spends his adult life being pursued by followers he never asked for, scolded by his mother Mandy, and drawn into the squabbling politics of first-century Judea under Roman occupation. Between an encounter with Pontius Pilate and involvement with a separatist movement, Brian finds the attention hard to shake off.

The film is a Monty Python comedy directed by Terry Jones, who had previously made Monty Python and the Holy Grail and would go on to direct Monty Python's The Meaning of Life and several later features. The screenplay is credited to Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin and Jones, and the six members of the troupe play the main roles, with Graham Chapman as Brian and Palin as Pontius Pilate among many other parts.

Released in 1979, the film was made for about 4 million dollars and took roughly 20 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 8 out of 10 from around 434,000 votes, with a 7.8 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller base, while a critics' rating of 8.6 out of 10 from 73 reviews places it above both audience scores.
