What's left behind the scenes
- This is director Jérémy Peron's feature film debut. Previously, he had only directed individual episodes of the animated series “The Last Man” (2016-2022). In 2018, producer Didier Crest approached Peron and Laurent Sarfati (the screenwriter and creator of “The Last Man”) and asked them to consider creating a film based on the animated series. Peron and Sarfati convinced him to try their hand at an original neonoir animated science fiction film. He was captivated by the idea, found funding for the project, and eventually “Mars Express” came to light.
- Sometimes the cartoon shows an intersection of three roads, named Suzuki, Hulsbeck, and Chahi. This is a reference to Yu Suzuki, Chris Hulsbeck, and Eric Chahi – well-known figures in the gaming industry. The hacker is named Roberta Williams, which is a reference to another key figure in the field of computer games.
