Josh Hasty's Candy Corn is set in the town of Grove Hill, Ohio, on the eve of Halloween in 1980. A travelling carnival arrives with a sideshow attraction built around Dr. Death, and it hires a local outcast named Jacob Atkins to appear as one of its freaks. A group of local bullies has made a yearly habit of tormenting Jacob, and this time their cruelty goes too far and he is killed. The sinister Dr. Death intervenes, using his powers to bring the dead man back, and Jacob sets out to take revenge on the people who wronged him.
The film is a horror thriller written and directed by Josh Hasty, who also produced it alongside Courtney Gains and Matt O'Neill through their companies. P.J. Soles, Tony Todd, Pancho Moler, Gains, Sky Elobar and Caleb Thomas appear in the cast.
Released in September 2019 and running 85 minutes, the film drew limited attention. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.1 from around 1,800 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 4.5 from a small number of votes. A critics' rating of 6.1 from six reviews sits noticeably higher than either audience score, though that figure rests on a very small sample.
