Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw

Bobbie Jo Baker works as a carhop but dreams of a career as a country singer. When she meets Lyle Wheeler, a drifter who models himself on Billy the Kid, she leaves her job behind and joins him on a spree of theft, violence and killing across the American Southwest. The two become lovers and partners in crime, and their recklessness draws the attention of a hard-nosed sheriff.

The film was directed by Mark L. Lester, who also produced it, from a screenplay by Vernon Zimmerman. It was Lester's second feature, following Steel Arena in 1973 and preceding Stunts in 1977; he went on to make Class of 1984, Firestarter and Commando. Lynda Carter plays Bobbie Jo and Marjoe Gortner plays Lyle, with Jesse Vint, Merrie Lynn Ross, Belinda Balaski and Gene Drew among a credited cast of twenty. American International Pictures released the film in March 1976, and it runs 89 minutes.
