Set in 1990, The Little Things follows Joe "Deke" Deacon, a deputy sheriff from Kern County who is sent to Los Angeles on what should be a routine errand. While there, he is drawn into the hunt for a serial killer stalking the city, working unofficially alongside Sergeant Jim Baxter, the detective leading the case. Baxter becomes impressed by the instincts of the older officer, but he does not know that the investigation is stirring up events from Deke's own past in Los Angeles, where he once worked as a detective. Those buried secrets threaten both men and the case they are trying to close.
John Lee Hancock wrote and directed the film, his seventh feature after The Highwaymen in 2019 and before Mr. Harrigan's Phone in 2022. Denzel Washington plays Deke, with Rami Malek as Baxter and Jared Leto as the suspect Albert Sparma. The supporting cast includes Chris Bauer, Michael Hyatt and Terry Kinney. Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures with Gran Via Productions, the film had a budget of about 30 million dollars and took in a similar amount worldwide, so it roughly broke even at the box office.
Reactions to the film were mixed. On IMDb and TMDB, audiences rate it around the middle of the scale, with the TMDB score sitting at 6.4 from roughly 2,949 votes. That is somewhat warmer than the critics' rating of 5.4 from 266 reviews, indicating reviewers were less enthusiastic than general viewers.
