The film is based on the novel by Cecilia Ahern "P.S. I Love You" (PS, I Love You, 2002).
Filming took place from November 2006 in New York and Ireland.
In Holly's room, you can notice a DVD with the film "Dark Victory" (1939).
Hilary Swank joined the project in May 2005. Gerard Butler joined in August of the same year.
The film is dedicated to the memory of Windland Smith Rice (1970-2005).
During the filming of one of the love scenes, Butler accidentally hit Swank in the head with suspenders, resulting in the actress needing four stitches and work being halted for a week.
