Rodman: For Better or Worse

Dennis Rodman was one of the most gifted players ever to set foot on an NBA court, and he was equally known for his behaviour away from it. This documentary looks at how a shy young man from Texas, who found a place in basketball and won championships alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, became one of the sport's most talked-about figures. His own words, along with those of family members, journalists and biographers, trace that transformation and the search for belonging that ran through it.

Todd Kapostasy directed the film, made for ESPN's 30 for 30 strand by ESPN and Five All in the Fifth Entertainment. Dennis Rodman appears as himself, Jamie Foxx provides narration, and among those interviewed are Rodman's mother Shirley, his sister Debra, biographer Dan Bickley and writer Tim Keown. The production credits include Matt Schlef, Darren Prince and Chris "Vo" Volo. It runs 106 minutes.

The film was released in September 2019, arriving in the same year as the ESPN documentary series' later run of films and well after Rodman's playing career had ended. Its audience response has been positive, with a rating of 8 out of 10 on TMDB from a modest number of votes, a figure that suggests the viewers who have found it rate it highly rather than that it has reached a wide audience.
