What's left behind the scenes

The film's production was completed in 2009. The release was scheduled for November 24, 2010, but due to MGM's financial difficulties, the film was shelved. Another reason was Chris Hemsworth's role in "The Avengers" (2012); the studio decided that the box office receipts for "Rush" (2012) would be better due to the fame the actor would gain after "The Avengers".
Initially, the role of the invaders in the film was assigned to the Chinese. During post-production, they were replaced with North Koreans in order to gain the possibility of releasing the film in China.
Chris Hemsworth and Isabel Lucas both appeared in the series "Home and Away" (1988) and were in a relationship in real life.
In the original film "Red Dawn" (1984), the invading army consisted of troops from the Soviet Union and Cuba.
When the characters talk about what they have lost, one of them mentions the game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare." However, the mission where a foreign army invades America, which was based on the original 1984 film, was in the second installment of the game — "Modern Warfare 2."
