13 Tzameti follows Sebastien, a young Georgian immigrant in France who scrapes by doing manual work. While repairing a roof, he learns of a letter that seems to promise a large sum of money. After the homeowner dies, Sebastien takes the envelope and decides to follow its instructions in the hope of a windfall, even though they were meant for someone else. The trail of clues leads him to an isolated house, where he stumbles into an underground gathering. What awaits him there is a clandestine world in which men wager on the lives of others, and he is drawn into a dangerous game with no clear way out. A police officer named Gerard Dorez, meanwhile, is tracking him.
The film is the feature debut of director Gela Babluani, who also wrote and produced it. It was released in 2006. Babluani went on to direct 13, a later film. The cast includes Giorgi Babluani as Sebastien, alongside Aurélien Recoing, Pascal Bongard, Fred Ulysse, Nicolas Pignon and Vania Vilers.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.3 from around 19,000 votes, and on TMDB it holds a rating of 7.1 from roughly 264 votes. A critics' rating of 7.2 from 65 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
