Six high school students in the town of Saima decide to spend the first days of their summer break away from everyone else. They settle into a disused mining facility and turn it into a hideout, intending a short, carefree adventure before the holidays begin. Their absence is soon noticed, and what the teenagers treat as a private escape takes on a different meaning for the adults around them. Aya Chiyono and Mamoru Suzuhara are among the group, with Hitomi Nakayama also figuring in the events that follow.
The film is an animated feature from Japan, released in December 2019 and running eighty-nine minutes. Yuta Murano directed it from a screenplay by Ichirou Ookouchi, with Shuhei Arai, Takashi Tachizaki and Shinichiro Ozawa producing through the studio Ajiado. The voice cast includes Kyoko Yoshine, Takumi Kitamura, Haruka Michii, Makoto Koichi, Megumi Han and Rie Miyazawa. Murano had directed work in television animation before this, among them adaptations of light novel and manga properties.
Audience response has been modest but real. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.1 from 747 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.5 from 90 votes. The two audiences agree closely enough that the film found a small, settled following rather than a broad one, with the higher TMDB figure resting on a much smaller sample.
