Awake

Awake is a science fiction thriller about a global crisis in which every electronic device stops working and humanity loses the ability to sleep. As exhaustion spreads, society slides toward chaos, and Jill, a former soldier with a difficult past, emerges as a possible source of a cure: her daughter, Matilda. The central conflict follows Jill's attempt to bring the girl to safety while her own grip on reality begins to slip.

Mark Raso directed and co-wrote the film with Joseph Raso. It is his third feature, following Copenhagen (2014) and Kodachrome (2017). Gina Rodriguez plays Jill, with Ariana Greenblatt as Matilda, Lucius Hoyos as Noah, Shamier Anderson as Dodge, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Dr. Murphy, and Finn Jones as Brian. It was produced by Mark Gordon, Paul Schiff and Gregory Poirier, and runs 96 minutes.

The film was released on 9 June 2021. On IMDb, viewers rate it 4.9 out of 10 from around 29,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds 5.8 out of 10 from roughly 1,200 votes. A critics' score of 4.3 out of 10 from 49 reviews places it below both audience measures. The size of the IMDb vote count indicates a wide viewership, and the low scores across all three groups point to a largely unfavourable reception.
