The Other Lamb

Teenage Selah has spent her whole life inside a secluded community hidden deep in the woods, where a group of women and girls live apart from modern society under the absolute rule of a man they call Shepherd. To his followers he is father, teacher and husband at once; the women are divided into wives and daughters, and Selah has been raised as one of his daughters. As she nears the age when she is expected to become his wife, terrifying visions and troubling disclosures push her to question the only world she has ever known and her loyalty to Shepherd, whose behaviour grows steadily more dangerous.

The Other Lamb is a drama with horror and thriller elements, directed by Małgorzata Szumowska from a screenplay by Catherine Smyth-McMullen. It was Szumowska's second English-language feature and followed Elles (2011) in her filmography, before Never Gonna Snow Again (2021), Infinite Storm (2022) and later titles. Raffey Cassidy plays Selah, with Michiel Huisman as Shepherd and Denise Gough as Sarah, a marginalised wife whose doubts about Shepherd's teachings draw Selah's attention. Eve Connolly, Kelly Campbell and Isabelle Connolly appear among the community's women. The production was an international one, involving companies from Belgium, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States, and the film runs 97 minutes.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.3 from roughly 6,200 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.7 from 244 votes. A critics' score of 6.7 from 109 reviews places it noticeably higher than the audience ratings on both sites.
