Arthur the King

Based on a true story, Arthur the King follows Michael, an adventure racer who assembles a team of athletes for a grueling expedition race through the jungles of the Dominican Republic. Determined to finally secure a victory in what he approaches as a last opportunity, he convinces a sponsor to back the effort. Partway through the multi-day, hundreds-of-miles course, a wounded stray dog joins the team, and the animal becomes an inseparable companion as the competitors push themselves to their physical limits. The encounter reshapes how Michael and his teammates understand winning, loyalty and friendship.

Simon Cellan Jones directed the film, his third feature following Coup! and The Family Plan, and Michael Brandt wrote the screenplay. Mark Wahlberg plays Michael, with Simu Liu, Juliet Rylance, Nathalie Emmanuel and Ali Suliman among the supporting cast. The production, mounted by Sierra/Affinity, Entertainment One, Atmosphere Entertainment MM and Tucker Tooley Entertainment, cost about 19 million dollars and took roughly 41 million dollars worldwide.
