Short description
Cole Johnson is trying to leave his past behind and get through high school, two years after he survived a satanic cult run by his babysitter, Bee. When old enemies reappear without warning, Cole has to find a way to outwit the forces of evil once more.
The Babysitter: Killer Queen is a 2020 American comedy horror film directed by McG, who also wrote the screenplay with Dan Lagana and Jimmy Warden, and produced it with Mary Viola and Zack Schiller. It follows McG's earlier film The Babysitter (2017) in his filmography and came before Family Switch (2023). Judah Lewis returns as Cole, joined by Jenna Ortega as Phoebe Atwell, Robbie Amell as Max, Emily Alyn Lind as Melanie, Andrew Bachelor as John and Bella Thorne as Allison. The production involved 41 credited cast members and 54 credited crew members across Wonderland Sound and Vision and Boies/Schiller Film Group.
On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.8 from around 59,000 votes, while on TMDB it scores 6.3 from roughly 1,900 votes, indicating a modest but somewhat warmer response from that audience. A critics' rating of 5.1 from 39 reviews places critical opinion slightly below the audience scores on both platforms.
What's left behind the scenes
- When Jenna Ortega's character arrives at the lake shore, she mentions Big Margie. This is a reference to Big Margie from Tim Burton’s family comedy “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” (1985).
- Cole (played by Jude Lewis) appears noticeably older than he was in the original film “The Babysitter” (McG, 2017), although the events of the sequel take place only two years later. This is because “The Babysitter” was released in 2017, but filming took place in 2015, while “The Babysitter: Killer Queen” was filmed at the end of 2019.
