Naked Singularity

Casi is a New York public defender who believes he can make the system work for his clients. When he loses a case for the first time, that faith begins to erode, and the daily injustices he witnesses push him to question everything he once accepted. A former client, Lea DeLeon, draws him into a scheme to rob a drug deal, an attempt to turn the flaws of the justice system against the system itself. What starts as a way to strike back grows into something far more dangerous than Casi anticipated.

Naked Singularity is a crime drama directed by Chase Palmer, who wrote the screenplay with David Matthews. It was Palmer's first feature as director and marked a shift into filmmaking for a writer previously known for screenwriting work. John Boyega leads the cast as Casi, with Olivia Cooke as Lea DeLeon, Bill Skarsgård as Dane, Ed Skrein as Craig Bayonne, Linda Lavin as Judge Cymbeline and Tim Blake Nelson as Angus. The production was mounted by Scott Free Productions, Anton, Wolf Entertainment and 3311 Productions, with a credited cast of 46 and a crew of 212.

Released in August 2021, the film runs 94 minutes. Reception was muted across the board: it holds 4.9 out of 10 on IMDb from around 3,300 votes and 4.6 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller pool of 88 votes. A critics' rating of 4.6 out of 10 from 40 reviews places professional opinion roughly in line with the audience response, with neither group regarding it as a success.
