Jen Shaw sets out with a group of friends to hike the Appalachian Trail. When they ignore warnings from locals to stay on the marked route, they wander into territory held by the Foundation, a concealed community of mountain people who guard their way of life by violent means. As the hikers find themselves under attack, Jen's father arrives in the nearby town of Harpers Ferry looking for the daughter who vanished there six weeks earlier, hoping to reach her before it is too late.
The film is a reboot of the Wrong Turn series, directed by Mike P. Nelson from a screenplay by Alan B. McElroy, who wrote the 2003 original. It was Nelson's second feature, following The Domestics in 2018, and it precedes V/H/S/85, Silent Night, Deadly Night, Sweet Revenge and Beware Boiúna in his filmography. Charlotte Vega plays Jennifer Shaw, with Adain Bradley, Bill Sage, Emma Dumont, Dylan McTee and Daisy Head among the cast. The production involved companies in the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany and took about 5 million dollars worldwide.
Reception was mixed. On IMDb the film holds 5.5 out of 10 from more than 35,000 votes. On TMDB it sits at 6 out of 10 from around 1,400 votes, and a critics' rating of 6 out of 10 from 65 reviews places professional opinion close to the audience's view.
