The film is based on Kerin Bosnak's novel "20 Times a Lady" (2006).
Chris Evans sings himself in the film.
By the time the film received the green light, the script was several years old. The lead actress and film producer Anna Faris insisted on increasing the number of ex-boyfriends, arguing that a woman in the modern world should have more sexual experience. The studio management, in turn, proposed stopping at the number 16, believing that audiences would not accept a heroine with too many former partners. The studio management prevailed, and a compromise was reached to stop at the number 20.
