Short description
Ally Darling is unhappy with how her life has turned out: she has no husband, no job and none of the future she had imagined for herself. After reading a magazine article claiming that women who have had twenty or more lovers are unlikely to marry, she decides that one of the men she has already dated must be the right one, and sets out to track down her ex-boyfriends. Her neighbor Colin Shea, a womanizer, becomes an unexpected helper in the search.
The film is a romantic comedy directed by Mark Mylod, who had previously made Ali G Indahouse and The Big White, and who would later direct The Menu. Jennifer Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan wrote the screenplay, and Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson produced it. Anna Faris plays Ally, with Chris Evans as Colin; Ari Graynor, Blythe Danner, Ed Begley Jr. and Oliver Jackson-Cohen appear in supporting roles. It runs 106 minutes and was released in September 2011.
Made for a budget of about 20 million dollars, the film took roughly 30 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from around 92,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.5 out of 10 from about 2,500 votes. A critics' rating of 4.4 out of 10 from 115 reviews places it noticeably below the audience scores.

The lead actress and film producer Anna Faris insisted on increasing the number of ex-boyfriends, arguing that a woman in the modern world should have more sexual experience. The studio management, in turn, proposed stopping at the number 16, believing that audiences would not accept a heroine with too many former partners. The studio management prevailed, and a compromise was reached to stop at the number 20.
