I'm Your Woman

Set in the 1970s, I'm Your Woman follows Jean, a suburban housewife whose husband Eddie brings home an infant, telling her the child is theirs. Jean has grown used to Eddie's unexplained gifts and has only a vague sense of him as a small-time criminal. When he betrays his partners, Eddie disappears, and one of his associates hurries Jean and the baby out of their home to a hiding place. The danger does not end there, and Jean must keep moving while deciding whether to remain passive or take charge of her own survival. The film is a crime drama built around a woman pulled into a world she was kept apart from.

Julia Hart directed, working from a screenplay she wrote with Jordan Horowitz, who also produced alongside star Rachel Brosnahan. It was Hart's fourth feature, following Miss Stevens, Fast Color and Stargirl, all released within a few years of one another, and it arrived the same year as Stargirl. Brosnahan plays Jean, with Marsha Stephanie Blake, Arinzé Kene, Bill Heck, Frankie Faison and Marceline Hugot in supporting roles.

Released in 2020, the film runs two hours. It received a critics' rating of 6.9/10 from 159 reviews, noticeably higher than its audience scores of 6.2/10 on IMDb and 5.9/10 on TMDB. Those figures indicate that reviewers responded more positively than general viewers did.
