South of Heaven

South of Heaven follows Jimmy Ray, a convicted armed robber granted early parole after twelve years behind bars. He returns to his childhood love, Annie, who is dying of cancer, and promises to give her the best year she has left. Keeping that promise proves difficult, as the terms of his release and the criminal world he left behind pull him into a conflict involving a local crime boss, Whit Price.

The film is the second feature directed by Aharon Keshales, following Big Bad Wolves in 2013. He wrote the screenplay with Navot Papushado and Kai Mark, and the cast includes Jason Sudeikis as Jimmy, Evangeline Lilly as Annie, Mike Colter as Whit Price, Shea Whigham as Schmidt, Jeremy Bobb as Honest Frank and Amaury Nolasco as Manny, among 23 credited performers. It was produced by Roger Birnbaum, Amanda Presmyk and Dallas Sonnier, and runs 120 minutes.

Released in October 2021, the crime drama was made in the United Kingdom and the United States. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 2,500 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.4 from roughly 90 votes. A critics' rating of 5.2 from 44 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores on both platforms.
