Night Guard

A crime is committed at a commodity base after an accountant discovers a documentation error. During the night, an intruder breaks into a safe to steal accounting records and kills the accountant. Police commissioner Krechetov and lieutenant Kasyanov are assigned to find the culprits. Their investigation leads them to a repeat offender known as Ogonyok, who has returned to his hometown working as a sailor on a foreign ship. The seasoned commissioner must determine if Ogonyok is the killer or if the man is simply trying to leave his criminal past behind.

Produced by Gorky Film Studios in the Soviet Union, this mystery film was directed by Vladimir Sukhobokov. The screenplay was written by Mikhail Maklyarsky and Lev Sheynin, with Leonid Lukov serving as producer. The main cast features Lev Sverdlin as the police commissioner, Mark Bernes as Ogonyok, and Vadim Grachov as the lieutenant, supported by Valentina Ushakova, Vladimir Andreyev, and Yevgeny Gurov.
