Short description
A border-town bombing draws Mexican investigator Miguel Vargas into a corruption-ridden police investigation led by crooked captain Hank Quinlan, setting off a deadly struggle over power, justice, and truth.
What's left behind the scenes
- The screenplay was written based on Whit Masterson's novel «Sign of Evil».
- Many actors took on small roles and worked for below-standard rates simply to collaborate with Welles.
- Filming wrapped on schedule, Welles delivered a rough cut to the studio and was confident his Hollywood career was back on track. However, the studio substantially re-edited and partially reshot the film. It was given a B-movie classification and screened as a double feature.
- In 1993, the film was included in the National Film Registry of the United States of America.
