Renfield

Renfield is a comedy horror film about Dracula's long-suffering servant, who has spent centuries carrying out his master's orders and supplying him with victims, no matter how degrading the task. Tired of his existence as a lackey, he decides he wants something different, and he becomes involved with Rebecca Quincy, a traffic cop he meets through a support group. Breaking free is complicated, since the bond between servant and vampire runs both ways, and his master has no intention of letting him go.

The film was directed by Chris McKay, following The Lego Batman Movie and The Tomorrow War. Ryan Ridley wrote the screenplay, and the cast is led by Nicholas Hoult as Renfield and Nicolas Cage as Dracula, with Awkwafina as Rebecca, Ben Schwartz, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Brandon Scott Jones in supporting roles. It draws on Bram Stoker's characters while placing them in a present-day American setting.

Made for a budget of 65 million US dollars, Renfield took in about 26 million worldwide, a weak return on its production cost. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from roughly 119,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6.4 out of 10, from a much smaller base of about 2,245 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 305 reviews places it slightly below both audience scores, and the three sets of figures point to a mildly received film rather than a strongly embraced one.
