The God Committee

When a donor heart becomes available at a New York hospital, the transplant committee has roughly an hour to choose which of three patients on the waiting list will receive it. Five doctors must weigh medical need against money and morality, among them a brilliant but cynical heart surgeon, an idealistic younger physician and a weary administrator. The decision they reach has consequences that the members of the committee are still dealing with years later.

Austin Stark directed and wrote the film, his second feature after The Runner (2015) and before Coup! (2024). Kelsey Grammer plays Dr. Andre Boxer, with Julia Stiles as Dr. Jordan Taylor, Janeane Garofalo as Dr. Valerie Gilroy, and supporting turns from Dan Hedaya, Colman Domingo and Patricia R. Floyd. The film runs 98 minutes.

The God Committee was released in July 2021. Among critics it holds a rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 28 reviews, closely matching its TMDB audience score of 6.6 from around 90 ratings, while on IMDb it stands at 4.7 from 91 votes. The two audience measures therefore diverge sharply, and the critical consensus sits well above the IMDb figure.
