Three Wishes for Cinderella
Short description
A resourceful young woman lives as a servant in her own home under the cruelty of her stepmother and stepsister. While spending time in the forest, she meets a prince, and the two feel an immediate attraction to one another. To overcome her family's restrictions and attend a royal ball where the prince seeks a bride, she uses three magical acorns that grant wishes. After leaving the celebration in haste and losing a shoe, the prince searches the kingdom for the mysterious woman who fits the footwear.
This Norwegian family fantasy is a remake of a 1973 Czech film. It was directed by Cecilie A. Mosli, who later directed The Snow Sister in 2024. The film stars Astrid S as Askepott and Cengiz Al as the Prince, with Ellen Dorrit Petersen playing the stepmother. The production was handled by Storm Films and Friland Produksjon AS, with a screenplay written by Anna Bache-Wiig, Kamilla Krogsveen, and Karsten Fullu.
The movie has received moderate responses from viewers. On IMDb, it holds a rating of 5.8/10 based on 3,200 votes, while on TMDB it has a higher score of 6.9/10 from 191 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- For filming, Astrid Smeplass spent several months learning to ride and shoot a bow.
- Part of the filming took place in Lillehammer at the open-air ethnographic museum "Maihaugen," which houses more than 200 buildings depicting the life and traditions of the Norwegian people over the past 500 years.
- The director's chair for the remake was initially offered to Václav Vorlíček – director of the original 1973 fairy tale 'Three Wishes for Cinderella,' but he declined as he was already 85 years old and doctors strictly forbade him from working in the cold.
