Righting Wrongs

Righting Wrongs (執法先鋒) follows Jason Chan, a Hong Kong lawyer who returns from studying law in England and takes a job as a prosecutor. He builds a case against drug traffickers, but the trial collapses when the only witness is murdered along with his family. Convinced the law offers criminals more protection than it gives their victims, Jason begins hunting the men he could not convict. His killings draw the attention of Senior Inspector Sandy Jones, a determined police officer assigned to the murders of several drug lords, and the two close in on a confrontation that few of those involved will walk away from.

The film was directed by Corey Yuen, the third of the fourteen features he directed in chronological order, coming between No Retreat, No Surrender and No Retreat, No Surrender 2: Raging Thunder. Yuen also produced alongside star Yuen Biao, who plays Jason, while Cynthia Rothrock appears as Inspector Sandy Jones. Melvin Wong, Wu Ma and Louis Fan round out the main cast of thirty credited performers. A Hong Kong production from Golden Harvest and related companies, it combines action with crime, thriller, drama and some comedy.

Released in late 1986, the film has held up well with viewers. It rates 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 2,500 votes, and 7.6 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller base of under a hundred. The higher average on the smaller sample reflects an enthusiastic audience for this kind of Hong Kong action cinema.
