Eileen

Eileen Dunlop is a young secretary at a boys' prison in Massachusetts during the winter of 1964. At home she cares for her alcoholic father, while at work she is isolated from her colleagues and spends much of her time in daydreams of escape. Her routine shifts when Rebecca, a glamorous new counselor, arrives at the facility. Eileen is drawn to her, and the two women begin spending time together. Their friendship takes a darker turn when Rebecca confides a secret, pulling Eileen into a crime far beyond anything she had imagined. The film is based on Ottessa Moshfegh's novel of the same name, and Moshfegh wrote the screenplay with Luke Goebel.

William Oldroyd directed the film, his second feature after Lady Macbeth in 2016. Thomasin McKenzie plays Eileen, with Anne Hathaway as Rebecca. Shea Whigham, Sam Nivola, Marin Ireland and Siobhan Fallon Hogan appear in supporting roles.

Released in December 2023, the film had a budget of 16 million US dollars and grossed 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.9 from 20,000 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 5.8 from 424 votes. A critics' rating of 6.9 from 208 reviews places it above both audience scores.
