Amsterdam

Amsterdam follows three friends in 1930s New York: Burt Berendsen, a doctor, Harold Woodman, an attorney, and Valerie Voze, a nurse. The three met in Europe during the First World War and later spent time together in Amsterdam, where they promised to look out for one another. Years afterward, Burt and Harold are asked to examine the body of a senator, and their investigation draws them into a murder case in which they become suspects. Pursuing the truth leads them to a far-reaching conspiracy involving powerful figures.

David O. Russell directed and wrote the film, which he also produced with Arnon Milchan and Christian Bale. It is the tenth feature he directed, arriving between Accidental Love and Madden in his filmography. Bale plays Burt, Margot Robbie plays Valerie, and John David Washington plays Harold, with Alessandro Nivola, Andrea Riseborough and Anya Taylor-Joy among the supporting cast. The production was a large undertaking, with 78 credited cast members and 472 credited crew, and a budget of 80 million dollars.

Released in September 2022, the film earned about 31 million dollars worldwide, well below its budget. Audiences were mixed: it holds a rating of 6.2 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 107,000 votes and 6.1 out of 10 on TMDB from around 1,900 votes. A film critics' rating of 5 out of 10 from 261 reviews places it lower than those audience scores.
