The Man with the Golden Gun

The Man with the Golden Gun follows James Bond as he is drawn into a confrontation with Francisco Scaramanga, a highly paid professional assassin known for the golden weapon he uses. A golden bullet bearing Bond's designation arrives at Secret Service headquarters, signalling that Scaramanga has marked him as a target. Bond's search for a stolen device capable of converting solar energy into a powerful weapon brings him into the assassin's orbit, and their paths converge in a final confrontation on Scaramanga's island retreat, where his assistant Nick Nack plays a part.

The film is the ninth of thirteen directed by Guy Hamilton, following Live and Let Die and preceding Force 10 from Navarone. Tom Mankiewicz and Richard Maibaum wrote the screenplay, and Albert R. Broccoli, Harry Saltzman and Charles Orme produced it for EON Productions, United Artists and Danjaq. Roger Moore plays Bond for a second time, with Christopher Lee as Scaramanga, Britt Ekland as Mary Goodnight, Maud Adams as Andrea Anders, Hervé Villechaize as Nick Nack and Clifton James as Sheriff J.W. Pepper among a credited cast of twenty-nine.

Made for about seven million dollars, the film took roughly ninety-eight million dollars worldwide, a large return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 6.7 out of 10 from around 121,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.5 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 5.5 out of 10 from fifty-two reviews places it below both audience scores.
