Midnight in the Switchgrass

Midnight in the Switchgrass is a crime thriller set in Florida in 2004. Two FBI agents, Karl Helter and Rebecca Lombardo, are working a sex-trafficking investigation when they discover their case overlaps with a long-running inquiry into the murders of young women. Despite resistance to formal cooperation, they join forces with a Florida state officer, Byron Crawford, who has been pursuing the killer for years. The three close in on a suspect known as the Truck Stop Killer, and the hunt becomes a race against time when Lombardo is taken.

The film was directed by Randall Emmett, his first feature behind the camera, followed later by Savage Salvation, Cash Out, High Rollers and The Gentleman Thief. Alan Horsnail wrote the screenplay, and George Furla, Randall Emmett and Luillo Ruiz produced. Megan Fox plays Lombardo, Bruce Willis plays Helter, Emile Hirsch plays Crawford, and Lukas Haas, Caitlin Carmichael and Olive Elise Abercrombie also appear in a credited cast of 34, with 61 crew members listed.

Made on a budget of about 15 million dollars and released in July 2021, the film drew weak reactions. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.6 from roughly 13,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.8 from around 491 votes. A critics' rating of 3.4 from 38 reviews places it below even the modest audience scores, suggesting a poor reception on both sides.
