Children of the Corn
Short description
In a small town in Nebraska, a group of children begins killing adults after decisions regarding the local cornfields threaten their future. Led by a twelve-year-old girl, the children form a violent movement to eliminate anyone who opposes them. A high school student refuses to participate in the killings and attempts to stop the massacre.
This horror thriller was written and directed by Kurt Wimmer, following his previous work on Equilibrium and Ultraviolet. The film features a large credited cast of 93 people, including Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey, Bruce Spence, Stephen Hunter, and Jayden McGinlay. The production was a collaboration between several companies, including Digital Riot Media and Angel Oak Films.
The movie received generally negative feedback from both audiences and critics. It holds a rating of 3.8/10 on IMDb based on 5,500 votes and a 5/10 on TMDB from 164 votes. Film critics gave the production an even lower score of 3.2/10 based on 57 reviews.
What's left behind the scenes
- The black and white television broadcast at the beginning of the film is an episode, “It's a Good Life,” from the third season of “The Twilight Zone” (1959-1964) about a child with incredible abilities who takes the population of an entire city hostage, sending dissenters to the “cornfield”.
- This is Kurt Wimmer's first film after the science fiction action film “Ultraviolet” (2006). The director and screenwriter Wimmer stepped away from work for many years due to “creative differences” with studio management.
