Confess, Fletch

Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher, a former investigative journalist, returns in this comedy-mystery. He is hunting for an art collection that has been stolen from his girlfriend, but his search takes a sharp turn when he becomes the leading suspect in a murder case. To clear his name he has to work out which of the many people around him is responsible, a group that includes an art dealer, a missing playboy, an odd neighbour and his girlfriend, Angela. The film is a reboot of the Fletch series, which previously appeared on screen in the 1980s, and it draws on Gregory Mcdonald's novels about the character.

Greg Mottola directs and co-wrote the screenplay with Zev Borow. It is the seventh feature Mottola directed, arriving fifteen years after his debut The Daytrippers and after comedies such as Superbad, Adventureland and Keeping Up with the Joneses. Jon Hamm plays Fletch and also produces, alongside Bill Block and Connie Tavel. The cast includes Roy Wood Jr. as Inspector Morris Monroe, Annie Mumolo, Ayden Mayeri, Lorenza Izzo as Angela de Grassi and John Slattery as Frank Jaffe, with 46 credited cast members and 144 credited crew.

Released in September 2022, the film runs 99 minutes and was made for about 20 million dollars by Miramax. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from roughly 27,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from around 420 votes, while a critics' rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 127 reviews places it slightly above the audience scores.
