- The film is based on Jules Verne's novel 'The Mysterious Island' (French: L'Île mystérieuse, 1874).
- Filming took place on Oahu Island and in Wilmington.
- Dwayne Johnson himself grew up in a musical family, so the idea of singing in the film and playing the ukulele came from him. He suggested this idea to director Brad Peyton, and he liked it.
