Filming of the movie began on June 6, 2011, in New Orleans. The actors and crew also worked in Brussels.
Matthias Schoenaerts played the role of Philip in the original Belgian film "Loft" (2008) and reprised the role in the Hollywood remake.
Patrick Wilson was initially intended to play the role of Vincent Stevens, but he left the project, and the role went to Karl Urban.
Tobey Maguire was considered for a role in this film, but ultimately turned it down.
This is Matthias Schoenaerts' first role performed entirely in English.
Rosamund Pike was offered a role in this film, but she declined.
Eric Stonestreet is a graduate of the University of Kansas, where James Marsden's father teaches.
