Thelma the Unicorn

Thelma the Unicorn is a 2024 animated family film about a singing pony who dreams of stardom. When a chance accident covers her in pink glitter and gives her a horn, she is mistaken for a unicorn and becomes an international sensation. The fame comes with pressures she did not expect, and she comes to miss her ordinary life, eventually choosing to shed the horn and sparkles and return to the best friend waiting for her at home.

The film was directed by Jared Hess alongside Lynn Wang, from a screenplay by Jared Hess and Jerusha Hess, and produced by Pam Coats. It is Hess's seventh feature, following Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre, Gentlemen Broncos, Masterminds and Ninety-Five Senses, and it precedes A Minecraft Movie. Brittany Howard voices Thelma, with Will Forte as Otis, Jemaine Clement as Vic Diamond, Edi Patterson as Megan, Maliaka Mitchell as Peggy Purvis and Ally Dixon as Nikki Narwhal among a credited cast of 42. Made by DreamWorks Animation, Netflix and Scholastic Productions, it runs 93 minutes.

Audience response was modest and divided by platform. On IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from around 3,400 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.9 out of 10 from roughly 200 votes. The smaller, more enthusiastic TMDB sample contrasts with the broader and more mixed IMDb turnout.
